Accountants and tax professionals live in a digital world and with the constantly changing regulations and practices, they turn to online sources to keep them informed.

From the implications of new tax laws, to accounting strategies and new technologies for accounting and business management, to even how trade developments may affect their clients, these professionals rely on news websites, and in-depth research to adapt their practices to be more productive and better at their career.

With a few hundred billion websites on earth, it can be challenging to find the sites and blogs that are the most reliable and that also keep up with cutting edge developments. This list can help give you a starting point, or a cheat sheet, for when you’re looking for specific information, or just wanting a few daily reads to keep up with the latest trends and news.

Blogs vs. Websites

For starters, let’s define these two terms. While often used interchangeably, there is a general difference. Traditional websites are more commonly associated with news organizations, other organizations (like government agencies or professional groups), or businesses. Blogs, on the other hand, are usually more focused on opinion and insight offered by one (or a few) individual persons who are often recognized as experts in a particular field.

That does not mean that one or the other is more reliable. While a traditional website might be a good resource for professionals keeping up with new tax law changes, for example, a blog from a reputable tax expert or attorney might offer a valuable breakdown of how the changes would affect specific taxpayers, and might link to related tax law cases or analysis to support their findings. Therefore, it is recommended that professionals keep their browser shortcut menu stocked with links to their favorite and most-trusted sites and blogs.
