When I look at a mobile app, the first thing I want to know is just how mobile it will make me. Can I do everything in the mobile app that I can do in the web app? If I am going to have the freedom and mobility that I need, the mobile version needs to be able to do substantially everything the web app does. Limited functionality on the mobile app equals limited freedom and mobility.
I’ve been disappointed many times by going to a mobile app and finding that it does a fraction of what the web app does. In those cases, I have a decision to make. Either find an alternative that offers the freedom that I need, or wait it out. Today a company told me that a critical feature I was looking for was “on the roadmap.” I am pretty sure when I looked at their app about two years ago, they had said the same thing.
So how long are you willing to wait for the freedom you want?
When I am travelling I love getting to the airport really early. It reduces stress and I can get a lot of work done at the gate. With the apps that I use, I am not restricted.
When I started looking at Core’s mobile app, I wanted an answer to this question: Can I be sitting at the gate in an airport and still accomplish what needs to be done?
Let’s say I just got off the phone with a prospect, and I wanted to set up the project right away so I can send them a retainer invoice. Then hopefully by the time I land at my destination, I’ve been paid. Can I do that?
Let’s say I am looking for financing for my business, and while I am at the gate, the bank calls. They want a current P&L. Do I need to ask them to wait until I get back to my office? I hope not!
These are the kinds of things that come up for a “business of today.”
Ideally, I want to be able to be on vacation without my clients even knowing. I could be sitting on the beach and using the mobile app to handle anything I need to, so the fact that I am on vacation would never be an issue. I could stop using those silly vacation auto-responders.
On a side note, just because you are completely accessible doesn’t mean you have to be on a digital leash. In fact, since I am normally so accessible to my clients I have absolutely no guilt about holding off on responding. If I am out with my wife (on vacation or not) the mobile devices and the apps are great about giving me notifications. This means it will be easy to track and manage what I need to follow up on later. Core’s mobile app lets me add to-dos right from the dashboard.
Let’s take a look at Core’s mobile app and see what it can do for me when I am at the airport gate.
